Mom and Baby Elephant

Mom and Baby Elephant is a recent painting for my Heni’s Happy Painting’s Etsy shop.  Several people have asked for an elephant print.  I love elephants myself and so I decided to paint one.  I’ve chosen an African savannah scene with a mom and baby which will go nicely with the lion paintings.

I have been thinking of Africa lately as my sister and brother in law were in Nairobi for a few weeks earlier this summer, she sent back photos and wrote about her amazing experiences there. One day I hope to travel to Africa also.  I chose to paint a mom and baby for a couple of reasons.  My other mom and baby painting of dolphins is the best seller of my shops. Moms love it for young children’s rooms and so hopefully this one will be popular also.

I’ve been thinking about motherhood lately as my daughter recently graduated from high school and will be off to college soon.  It’s been such a privilege for me to be her mom as she has grown from a baby to child to young adult.  I’m excited for her next phase in life.  My husband and I will be empty nesters, a big change for us too.  This painting will serve as a memory for me of this time.

The Water Bearer

The Water Bearer –  acrylic painting by Heni Sandoval

My new painting, The Water Bearer is another painting for my Heni’s Happy Paintings Etsy shop.   I’m pleased with her expression, she seems to be full of fun and enjoying herself as she pours water from her pot.  During our travels through the villages in Southeast Asia and Nepal we saw women easily carrying pots filled with all types of items. The water bearer is the symbol for Aquarius, the water gives life and spiritual food to the world. The water from her vessel washes away the past, leaving room for a fresh, new start.

Water Lilies with Pink Lotus

Water Lilies with Pink Lotus is my most recent painting. I got the idea to paint a new lotus from a woman who saw the lotus prints in my Circles Round the Sun Etsy shop   She liked my style but wanted a print that focused on the water lilies as she her new baby girl is going to be named Lily and she wanted it to help decorate her nursery.   I thought that was a sweet idea and so I decided to paint  a water lily pond scene. I think it has turned out fairly well and I’m hoping that she will be pleased.

Pink Seahorse

I have just completed Pink Seahorse for my Heni’s Happy Paintings Etsy shop.   Early this week a woman contacted me through my shop.  She liked the style of my other seahorse print listed there but instead of a seahorse family she wanted one pink seahorse.   Seahorses are such interesting creatures.   Years ago when my daughter was in elementary school I remember taking her to the Fernbank Museum of Natural History where there was an exhibit of seahorses in several tanks.  They were so magical with their amazing colors and horse like shapes and the way they skirted through the water.  I could have watched them for hours.   I  decided it would be fun to paint a new one and that it would be a nice addition to my sea life prints which have been popular sellers.    I haven’t heard back from the woman yet, I hope she will like it. Regardless, it was fun to paint and I’m pleased.

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year! I put up my Pink Lotus Blossom today as the Lotus symbolizes new beginnings after growing up through the muck at the bottom of the pond.  2013 has been a challenging year for some of my friends and family but I’m getting a good feeling about this new year.  Personally I am feeling very upbeat, things are looking up all around us.  A very good friend of mine is relocating from the West Coast to North Carolina so we will be able to see each other more often.  My eldest niece is days away from having her baby, the first in the new generation so we are all excited for her and her husband about this new addition to our family.  My daughter will return from winter break to a brand new state of the art building instead of the trailers where she has spent most of her high school years in.  Lots of good changes going on.  I hope there are good things happening for you and that this new year brings much joy and happiness!

Caribbean Dreaming

Caribbean Dreaming

Ever since I was lucky enough to spend two weeks on a fishing boat in the Caribbean and learned to snorkel, tropical fish have amazed me.  It was  magical to witness these vivid colored and various shaped fish gliding along as if choreographed in a backdrop of coral in light dappled aqua water.

I painted Caribbean Dreaming a couple of winters ago during a cold spell to lift my spirits.  I find it freeing to paint fish  because pretty much any thing goes, you can play by layering colors as the fish starts to appear and the background can also be just as colorful and layered.

This year January has been unseasonably warm but cold weather is sure to come for a bit and I will definitely  take time to paint a new fish.
