Woman with Dove and Lilies is my most recent painting. I’ve worked on it off and on throughout this rainy week. It’s pouring now as I write. Next week they say the sun will be coming back, I think everyone here in Atlanta is more than ready for that. I’ll put this print up in my Circles Round the Sun Etsy Shop under my portrait section. I’m off now to start a new painting, hope all are enjoying the weekend!
Peace Dove Rising is my new painting. Each year in honor of International Day of Peace (Sept. 21st) I paint a white dove. It’s a day is observed by people all over the world to encourage peace within and among nations. Last year’s painting was a night scene which I titled, Darkest Before Dawn because at that time things appeared bleak. This year I felt like painting a happy, uplifted dove. It seems to me that progress is being made. There have been new major agreements occurring between nations. Leaders, political and spiritual, are shining light on major problems in our world in which we the people can come together and solve.
My husband and I took our daughter up to New York City for college three weeks ago and are adjusting to being empty nesters, it feels good to be settling down a bit and getting back to painting. Mom and Baby Elephant is a recent painting for my Heni’s Happy Painting’s Etsy shop. Several people have asked for an elephant print. I love elephants myself and so I decided to paint one. I’ve chosen an African savannah scene with a mom and baby which will go nicely with the lion paintings.
I have been thinking of Africa lately as my sister and brother in law were in Nairobi for a few weeks earlier this summer, she sent back photos and wrote about her amazing experiences there. One day I hope to travel to Africa also. I chose to paint a mom and baby for a couple of reasons. My other mom and baby painting of dolphins is the best seller of my shops. Moms love it for young children’s rooms and so hopefully this one will be popular also.
I’ve been thinking about motherhood lately as my daughter recently graduated from high school and will be off to college soon. It’s been such a privilege for me to be her mom as she has grown from a baby to child to young adult. I’m excited for her next phase in life. My husband and I will be empty nesters, a big change for us too. This painting will serve as a memory for me of this time.
Cardinal in the Garden is a new painting of mine. Last week I spotted a male and female cardinal hopping about on our roof; there will be baby birds chirping in a nest nearby soon. Cardinals are such striking song birds. On Mother’s day I felt like painting a new song bird since I was thinking about mom.
My parents loved to garden, dad transplanted eight or so dogwoods from the countryside and in the early spring the yard was gorgeous with those dogwoods in full bloom and pink azaleas below. The songbirds that gathered on the bird feeders in in their garden kept my parents entertained while they sat in the sun room. This new painting is in honor of mom and dad who through their care and love of the natural world around them passed that love on to me. Thank you!
The King is a new painting for my Heni’s Happy Paintings Etsy Shop. I had painted a lion cub a while back which I titled, The Prince. I wanted to paint an adult male lion with his large dramatic mane as a compliment to the first painting.
I remember watching “Born Free’ when I was a child and dreaming of traveling to Africa to live with the lions. They are such majestic creatures. The lion is a symbol for Leo, the sun is shining brightly behind the lion is the ruler of Leo. Leo’s love to shine and like the lion are leaders, big hearted and loyal.
Mexican Jumping Pearsis one of my early pear paintings. I chose the name because the colors and the bowl reminded me of Mexico. The pears look like they are celebrating, almost jumping out of their bowl with the colorful movement all around them.
Today I feel like celebrating, yesterday my girl completed her college applications. She has already gotten accepted to UGA which is no small feat and has now applied to two private Northeastern colleges. She worked diligently to get them done. The teens these days work so hard with their demanding school work and their extra activities. I’m glad that she can now can relax and see what happens. My husband and I are happy and very proud of her, wherever she ends up.
I’m looking forward to getting back to my painting routine and hope that everyone is off to a happy start to 2015!
Autumn Buddha is my most recent painting. A friend lent me her Buddha statue that she inherited from her mother-in-law, along with the her prayer beads which drape his shoulders. I like the soft and peaceful look of this Buddha statue. This is the second painting I’ve made of the statue.
Here in Georgia the fall colors are just getting started but I have been seeing many gorgeous images of fall scenes from Aquamosh’s Blog, a photography blogger that I follow. The rich warm colors of the fall images are just breathtaking. In this new painting I decided to play with those rich colors for the Buddha’s background.
I’ve done several Buddha paintings most of which I used a carved wooden Buddha statue from Thailand as the model. We bought the statue because it reminded us of our Southeast Asia travels. We visited many ancient temple ruins in park like settings. I loved walking among the massive stone Buddhas sitting peacefully in the landscape. I’ve tried to portray the serenity I felt there in my Buddha paintings. Prints of all my Buddhas are available in my Circles Round the Sun Etsy Shop.
